Hollins Brow to close for 5 weeks for resurfacing works

With thanks to the excellent Spotted Unsworth Facebook group, I am informed that Hollins Brow will be closing on Tuesday 8th May 2018 for approximately 5 weeks so that the council can re-surface the road. The diversion route will via Hollins Lane, Parr Lane and Sunny Bank Road to Manchester Road (and vice-versa).

Gritting Map

I must admit,  until recently, I did not know that Bury Council published a helpful map and list of routes across Unsworth and Bury that they have gritted. Given the recent bad weather, this may prove useful. Simply click on the map below to be taken to the Council’s website, where a updated and scrollable…

A global study of traffic and congestion published by INRIX has shown that Bury New Road (the A56) from Salford up to Prestwich is the FIFTH worst road in the UK for traffic congestion, outside of London. The A6 through Stockport is the 8th worst, the A560/A6 through Salford the 10th worst. More information INRIX and…

Pothole update: Langdale Drive

I reported some very bad potholes on Langdale Drive (especially the really terrible ones at the junction with Randale Drive) back in March. I’ve been meaning to post and update on the repairs for the past couple of weeks, but my time has been taken up with work and helping out in the Besses by-election…

Council takes out 40 year £10m loan to fix Bury potholes

The Bury Times is reporting today that the cabinet of Bury’s Labour-controlled council met last night to rubber stamp a £10 million pound loan, to be repaid over forty years. The money will be used to fix potholes and resurface roads across the borough. Regular readers of my blog will know I have written often…

Pothole update: Randale Drive

I am pleased to feed back that the pothole I reported to Bury Council two weeks ago on Randale Drive has been repaired. It looks quite a good job, so I am very grateful that the Council’s highways department has acted so quickly and professionally. Unfortunately, there are still many potholes across Unsworth ward that…

Pothole report: Ventnor avenue and Randale drive

Today I have reported two more very deep potholes that have appeared on the roads in and around Unsworth. A pothole I reported on Randale Drive at the junction with Sandown Road last year has re-appeared (primarily due to a poor repair the last time around) and so this has been reported again to Bury…

Pothole report: Ennerdale Drive

A large pothole has appeared on Ennerdale Drive at the junction with Borrowdale Drive in Unsworth ward. I have today reported this with Bury Council, however I also noticed that (like a lot of roads in Unsworth and Bury as a whole) that the surface is starting to wear down and come away in larger…

Parking problems in Unsworth

There appears to have been a recent spike in reports of parking problems across Unsworth and Whitefield in the past few weeks. At Unsworth pole, problems continue with lack of spaces throughout the day and into the early evening, with significant problems around 8-9am. A few people have told me that they have received ‘fines’…

Bury Council Highways department in resurfacing mess

The council has got itself into an awful mess due to a failed road repair in Bleasdale Close, Unsworth. While residents were initially pleased that the council’s highways department was finally filling in the numerous potholes in the small cul-de-sac, that pleasure soon turned to horror when highways had finished the work. A couple of…

Parr Lane road survey results from GMP

In May of this year (following a number of road traffic accidents on Parr Lane, outside the Co-op store), I asked Greater Manchester Police to conduct a road survey to see if we could determine how serious the speeding traffic had become. During June and July local residents may have noticed the survey box and…

Update: Fridays car accident outside Parr Lane Co-op store

I’ve written two letters today about the car accident that happened last Friday outside the Co-op store on Parr Lane. The first letter was to Bury Council’s Traffic Management Department, in which I asked them to do more to enforce the double yellow lines outside the Co-op, install a temporary 20mph zone around that section…

Another car accident outside Parr Lane Co-op store

There has been another car accident outside the Co-op store on Parr Lane in Unsworth this evening. Details are thin in the ground at the moment, but I do hope everyone is OK. I’ll be trying to find out some more detail tomorrow, but it does look like we have a serious safety issue at…

Reporting Back – Full Council, Answers to Questions

Earlier in the month was the regular meeting of Bury’s ‘Full Council’. The Lib Dem Group asked our full allocation of four questions: (summaries below – full answers here) – Children in Residential Care Mary D’ALbert asked about the recent report that “Thousands of police visits ‘criminalise’ children in care homes”, and could we be…

Bury cyclist dies after striking pothole

It was upsetting to read in the Bury Times that an 83 year old cyclist from Ramsbottom has died after he hit a pothole on Bury New Road in the town. In 2014 I blogged here about the millions of pounds that the Liberal Democrat-Conservative coalition government gave to Bury Council to start to tackle…

Update: Randale Drive and Chadderton Drive water leaks

I’ve been in touch with United Utilities over the last 2 days regarding separate water leaks on Randale Drive and Chadderton Drive. First, a further update on Randale Drive (see picture). It’s been over a month since I last blogged about the surface water that has been on Randale Drive at the junction of Rhodes…
