Missed bin collections on Rufford Drive

I wrote about the increase in missed bin collections across Bury here in September of last year and I am sorry to report that the problem does not seem to be getting any better. While new figures have not been released yet, I am hearing about some real problems on Rufford Drive and surrounding areas.

Residents have spoken of bins only being collected on one side of the road and repeated complete missed collections. Unfortunately, Bury Council’s Waste Management Service does not provide an email address on the Council website, so the only ways to contact them are via the general telephone line on 0161 253 5353 or via the’ Report a missed bin collection’ link on the website located at http://www.bury.gov.uk/missedbin

There are a couple of problems with these contact methods; firstly, if you call and speak to them on the telephone, there will be no record of the conversation and it is difficult to track this against repeated problems (some residents are telling me there are as many as SEVEN missed bin collections within one or two months). Secondly, the website can only be used to report a single missed bin collection, again it cannot be used for wider complaints.

I would like Rufford Drive, Elms estate and wider Unsworth residents to get in touch with me regarding similar problems. I intend to take your concerns to the next full council meeting on Wednesday 19th April, so please get your questions and comments to me within the next week if you can.

    Millom Drive has just had it’s third grey bin collection missed this year. There has only been a possible five collections so that is a 60% failure rate.
