A couple of weeks ago Unsworth residents received the leaflet attached below from Bury Council. I’ve been meaning to post this for a while, well here it is now. On the one hand, it is a nice message – well done, we are quite good at recycling…. maybe we should be all pleased to receive a pat on the back from the Council. But really, is it that difficult to deliver the right leaflet in the right area? I mean, if 8 out of 10 people can put the right recycles in the correct coloured bin, then is it too much to ask for our local council to push the right leaflets through our doors?
I am hoping this is just a genuine mistake. Perhaps the Council has employed a private company to deliver their leaflets (spare no expense!), but there is the other argument that says perhaps this was not a mistake and the ‘Hillock’ leaflet was always destined for Unsworth letterboxes.
This is worrying! This means either Bury Council doesn’t care about Unsworth and is not remotely bothered about the wrong area being on leaflets pushed through our door or even more worrying, the Council is considering abandoning Unsworth and merging us with Hillock. I don’t know about you, I’m incredibly proud to say I am from Unsworth. I lived here as a teenager, I went to School at Castlebrook in Unsworth, my family lives in Unsworth, I played for and coached a junior football team at Unsworth Junior Football Club for many years. I even run the @loveunsworth twitter account.
Don’t let the Council abolish Unsworth!
